Entrepreneurship Center Offers Help to Businesses Impacted by COVID-19

Hofstra University’s Entrepreneurial Assistance Center (EAC) is offering help and guidance to businesses hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic through the COVID-19 Small Business Recovery Assistance Program, a program funded by a recent grant award from Empire State Development. Resources include mentoring with a small business counselor to assist with navigating the myriad of federal and state loan programs, including the Paycheck Protection and New York Forward loan Programs. Counselors are available to answer questions, assist in completing loan applications, reconstruct financials, gather and upload supporting documentation and review of the online loan package.

The Hofstra EAC also provides technical assistance completing and submitting the New York State Minority/Women Owned-Business Enterprise (M/WBE) online application for those meeting the eligibility requirements. Counselors discuss the application process and how this certification can assist businesses to leverage new contract opportunities with government agencies. EAC Director and Senior Assistant Dean Laura Fetter commented, “In these uncertain and changing times for small businesses, M/WBE certification can open new doors and also serves as a powerful marketing tool.”

The Hofstra EAC has also been funded by grant from Empire State Development since 1991 and has helped more than 1,400 entrepreneurs to start and expand businesses. The EAC runs two 60-hour training programs in the spring and fall, with the most recent session ending in May 2020 which was offered through a virtual learning module.
