Hofstra-Digital Remedy Venture Challenge Winners Crowned

A company that makes high-performance track spikes for female sprinters, the inventor of an organic eyebrow gel and a low-cost, accessible mobile platform to fight addiction won top honors in the 2019 Hofstra-Digital Remedy Venture Challenge.

The contest, in its seventh year, awarded total prizes valued at $75,000 to help student entrepreneurs bankroll their start-ups. The Venture Challenge is sponsored by Digital Remedy, a digital marketing company, and run by Hofstra’s Center for Entrepreneurship.

“Everyone has a fantastic presentations, everyone brought
their ‘A’ game,“ said Mike Seiman, chairman and CEO of Digital Remedy, a member
of Hofstra’s Board of Trustees and chairman of the Center for Entrepreneurship
Advisory Board. Seiman, a Hofstra alumnus, started his company while he was
still a student.

“This might have been the best year we’ve had yet in terms
of the quality of the presentations,” he said.

The Venture Challenge provides students with business ideas
with mentoring through a bootcamp program and pitch preparation sessions.

This year’s winners include:

First place, and a total prize package of $42,000 – Elisabeth Paulina ’19, a mechanical engineering major, founder of Lynx, a company that makes track spikes that improve performance and help woman sprinters maintain the right posture.Second place, and a total prize package of $21,000 – Tania Speaks ’22, an entrepreneurship major and founder of Brow Boost, an organic eyebrow gel.Third place, and a total prize package of $8,500 – Michael Lai ’21, a biology major and founder of Cress Health, a start-up that leverages mobile technology to fight addiction.
