Hofstra Shines In Latest APR Scores

Hofstra University’s athletic teams once again recorded stellar scores in the NCAA’s most recent Academic Progress Rate report, released today.

Five Pride teams posted perfect multiyear APRs of 1,000 as men’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s golf, and women’s tennis achieved perfect scores.

The Hofstra men’s basketball team was one of only 12 men’s basketball programs nationally, and the only one in the Colonial Athletic Association, to post a perfect multiyear APR of 1,000.

It is the third straight year Hofstra has had at least five teams with perfect multiyear APRs of 1,000.

“We are proud to once again shine in the NCAA APR report,” commented Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. “Our incredibly high APR and our recent NCAA Public Recognition Awards are a testament to the unbelievable work our student-athletes do in conjunction with our academic support system in athletics and at Hofstra. We thank every student-athlete, coach, and administrator who continues to play a major role in the development of our student-athletes.”

Five Hofstra programs were honored last week with NCAA Public Recognition Awards as men’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s golf, and women’s tennis all had multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each of their respective sports.

A total of 10 Hofstra teams had at least a 990 multiyear APR, marking the third straight year Hofstra has had at least 10 teams with at least a 990 score. Hofstra had 17 teams that equaled or surpassed the NCAA national average of 983.

The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams.

The APR measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19 academic years.
