Five Hofstra Teams Earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards

Five Hofstra University athletic programs received NCAA Public Recognition Awards, it was announced today by the governing body. 

Earning the award this year is men’s basketball, women’s cross country, field hockey, men’s golf, and women’s tennis. 

“We are extremely proud of these five programs for earning the NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards,” commented Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. “I couldn’t be more impressed with the work these student-athletes do in the classroom and in their respective sports. Everyone in the Hofstra community deserves a thank you for helping our student-athletes succeed every day and we especially thank our outstanding academic support system.”

The NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards are given out to programs that had multi-year APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each of their respective sports. 

This marks the seventh time for men’s golf, sixth time for women’s tennis, fifth time for women’s cross country, the fourth time for men’s basketball, and the third time for field hockey. 

APR scores for all Division I teams will be released on May 19. The APR measures eligibility, graduation, and retention each semester or academic term and provides a clear picture of the ongoing academic performance for each team in every sport. All teams must meet an academic threshold of 930 to qualify for the postseason and can face penalties for continued low academic performance.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19 academic years.
