Student-Athletes Tie GPA Record

Hofstra student-athletes had another strong semester in the classroom as the group compiled a school-record 3.30 grade point average during the 2018 fall semester, tying the mark established in the 2016 fall semester.

“We are so proud of our Hofstra student-athletes and their dedication to success in the classroom,” commented Hofstra Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. “They continue to do incredible work, while balancing the many aspects of what it takes to be a successful student-athlete. A special thank you as always to our academic advising staff and all those who assist our student-athletes in their academic endeavors.”

It was success across the board for Hofstra student-athletes this past semester as 15 teams recorded a GPA of at least 3.00, seven teams had GPAs higher than 3.30 and 120 student-athletes were named to either the Provost’s (4.00) or Dean’s (3.50 or above) List. In addition, it marked the 13th straight semester that Hofstra student-athletes have compiled at least a 3.00 GPA.

The women’s tennis team had the highest GPA of all the Hofstra teams as they compiled a 3.58 GPA as a group, while men’s tennis was the top male team with a 3.55 GPA.

The women’s soccer team, which captured its second straight Colonial Athletic Association title this fall, led the department with 16 student-athletes named to either the Provost’s List or Dean’s List. The volleyball squad, which also won a CAA title, had five Dean’s List students.

Individually, Monique Iannella of the women’s soccer team became only the 25th student-athlete in school history to be named to the Google Cloud Academic All-American team, when she earned the honor last month. Iannella has a perfect 4.0 grade point average throughout her career, earning Provost’s List in every semester.

The Hofstra student-athletes currently have a stellar 3.28 GPA as a group comprising their entire Hofstra academic careers.
