Ianthe Dunn-Murad, ScD, CCC-A, clinical program coordinator of the Long Island Audiology Doctoral (AuD) Consortium in the School of Health Professions and Human Services, was recently honored as a Media Outreach Champion by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
The award recognizes Dr. Dunn-Murad’s efforts representing ASHA on a national radio tour that promoted the group’s “Better Hearing & Speech Month” public outreach campaign. As a media source, she was able to reach mainstream and Hispanic audiences because of her bilingual skills.
Dr. Dunn-Murad was one of four ASHA members and seven news outlets including The Washington Post and Consumer Reports honored with media awards at ASHA’s national conference in late 2019 for their work in furthering awareness and public education of communication disorders and treatments.
A clinical audiologist for more than 20 years, she oversees clinical programming for the Long Island AuD Consortium, which offers a clinical doctorate in audiology through the cooperation of Hofstra and two other universities, Adelphi and St. John’s. Dr. Dunn-Murad teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences.
