Amazon Fires Impact Climate Change

USA Today

Robert Brinkmann, PhD, professor of geology, environment, and sustainability, was interviewed by USA Today about the wildfires in the Amazon rainforest and their impact on climate change.

Dr. Brinkmann tells the paper that losing the Amazon rainforest would be a “double whammy” to global warming as the vast vegetation acts as a “carbon sink.”

“The Amazon is such a vast area and there has already been so much destruction,” Dr. Brinkmann said in the article. “To see what’s happening right now is heart breaking.”
