An Escape from Being a Woman of Color

Zora magazine/Medium

Kristal Brent Zook , an award-winning author and journalism professor at the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, explains why she (at times) wants to take a break from being a woman of color in an essay for Zora magazine, a new publication from Medium.com.

She writes: “The phrase ‘women of color’ can feel so confining in the larger scheme of things: in our work, our creativity and art, and in our intimate friendships and relationships. And yet, how many of us really give ourselves permission to explore those other public and private landscapes?”
