Razia Jayman, MD, an alum of the School of Education’s Health Professions Pedagogy and Leadership program, was awarded the 2019 President’s Award for Physician of the Year by Southside Hospital, part of the Northwell Health system.
Dr. Jayman, who graduated with the program’s inaugural class in 2018, is an internal medicine specialist at Southside Hospital and an assistant professor of medicine and health sciences at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
“In pursuing my master’s degree, I learned how to be a better leader and teacher,” said Dr. Jayman. “I learned so many crucial skills regarding career development in the program that would have otherwise taken me a decade to learn by experience. Our program director, Dr. Fornari, opened the doors for us to be better as educators, physicians, and mentors.”
Dr. Jayman was recognized by Southside for her exceptional work in and outside of the hospital, including several initiatives she has created to promote women’s health, improve the patient experience, and strengthen doctor communication.
“I was honored to receive the president’s award for physician of the year,” Dr. Jayman said. “It is quite humbling as I work with a group of amazing individuals. I always aspire to become a better physician and improve my skills with experience.”
