Education Professor Recognized for Civil Rights Contributions

School of Education Professor Alan Singer received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from the Town of North Hempstead for his efforts during the Civil Rights movement on Long Island.

Dr. Singer was the Town’s annual Black History Month Celebration Honoree. The certificate recognized Dr. Singer’s “contributions to effectuate and inspire change during the Civil Rights movement.”

Additionally, Dr. Singer was featured as a historian in Defining Moments: the Civil Rights Movement in North Hempstead, a 40-minute documentary recounting stories from the Civil Rights era in North Hempstead, which premiered at Manhasset Bow Tie Theater earlier this year.

Dr. Singer is an expert on civil rights issues and has provided commentary for national outlets, including The New York Times and Newsday, on various current events.
