Dr. Phyllis Zagano, Senior Research Associate in Residence in the Department of Religion, participated in the panel “The Future of Women Deacons: Views from the Papal Commission and the American Pews” at Fordham University on January 15.
The discussion focused on women deacons past, present, and future. Dr. Zagano and fellow speaker Fr. Bernard Pottier, SJ serve on the Papal Study Commission on the Diaconate of Women. This event marked the first time they have spoken publicly on the topic of women deacons since being named to Pope Francis’ commission in 2016. A number of media organizations covered the event, including Salt and Light Media, National Catholic Reporter, Catholic News Service, Crux, The Catholic Universe, and America: The Jesuit Review.
The discussion is available for viewing via Livestream.
