Hofstra’s 10-time national champion Cheer team and its six-time national champion Dance team will soon head to Orlando for the 2019 Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association College National Championship.
The Hofstra community will wish the teams luck at a send-off on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Hofstra Fitness Center on the North campus. The competition will take place January 18-20 at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL. Fans can tune in to the action on www.varsity.com.
“Our team is young this year, but we are not letting that hold us back,” said Kelly Olsen-Leon, Head Coach for Hofstra’s Dance Team. “We cannot wait to be at nationals.”
Cheer and Dance brought home the gold in several categories in 2018, including a sixth world victory for the Hofstra Cheer team and a three-peat national championship for the Hofstra Dance Team. This year, Cheer will compete in the Open Game Day All-Girl category and Small Co-ed Division I, and Dance in Division I Pom and Division I Jazz.
“The team is excited to represent our university,” said Christine A. Farina, Head Coach for Hofstra Cheer. “They’re looking forward to hitting an incredible routine and making everyone proud.”
