Community Faculty Journalism Lawrence Herbert School of Communication

Newsroom Leadership Panel

The Herbert School's Mark Lukasiewicz and Scott Brinton will participate in a PCLI panel on newsroom leadership.

Press Club of Long Island (PCLI) panel this week will feature members of the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication in a discussion about the role of newsroom managers in shaping news coverage.

The panel, “The Leadership Test:  How Newsroom Managers Make – or Break – Coverage,” will be held on Thursday, Nov. 29th at 7 pm in the Newsday cafeteria, 235 Pinelawn Road, in Melville, New York.

Adjunct journalism professor Scott Brinton, executive editor of Herald Community Newspapers and president of PCLI, will serve as moderator.  Panelists include three of Long Island’s journalism thought leaders:

  • Mark Lukasiewicz, dean of the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication and a former NBC News executive
  • Debbie Henley, executive editor and vice president of Newsday
  • Joe Shaw, executive editor of the Press News Group, which includes the award-winning Southampton Press

They will examine how newsroom managers pursue their journalistic mission and ensure staff morale in a highly-politicized time when the role of a free press is ridiculed and threatened.

The event is open to journalists of all levels of experience, from students and new reporters to long-time editors and news directors.  All Hofstra students, alumni, staff and faculty are also invited to attend. RSVP: PressclubofLI@gmail.com.
