More than 50 professors will participate in this year’s Faculty Research Day where they will share their research interests and accomplishments in an interactive forum with students, colleagues, and other members of the Hofstra community – Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, 11 am – 1 pm, Student Center Multipurpose Room.
During the popular event, faculty from diverse disciplines such as film, engineering, marketing, Russian, dance, and chemistry display posters highlighting their work and answer questions about their areas of study and expertise.
“Every year, Faculty Research Day never fails to create a stimulating and fun environment where students interact directly with accomplished faculty who are scholars in their field,” said Neil H. Donahue, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Academic Affairs. “This is the heart of the Hofstra learning experience.” He will also be presenting his work on German literature and culture in the 20th century.
The event, now in its seventh year, is a good opportunity for first-year students, in particular, to learn about dozens of major and minor options. Previous events over the last few years have also led to professors from different subject areas discovering common interests and collaborating on interdisciplinary research projects. In addition, many classes incorporate the event into the curriculum with assignments that encourage students to engage with the faculty participants.
Faculty Research Day is a spinoff of Undergraduate Research Day, which celebrates the scholarly work of students every May and December.
