The Pride kicked off Welcome Week 2018 on Thursday, August 30 with Move-In Day. Over the next few days, incoming students will be introduced to academic and social life at the university, take part in special Hofstra traditions, and explore the surrounding communities.
Students and families arrived on campus Thursday morning, unloading cars and decorating rooms before classes begin on Tuesday, September 4. On Friday, August 31, students joined author Meredith Castile, who is also a writer at Google, for a discussion of her book and this year’s common reading assignment, Driver’s License. The book explores the role of a driver’s license – a seemingly simple object – and how it contributes to the disenfranchisement of underrepresented populations.
Other Welcome Week highlights include a Class of 2022 group photo, trips to New York City, a new student barbecue, and a dance party.
