Singer focuses his piece on the questionable standards of the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test, the high-stakes exam taken by middle school students to determine admission to New York City’s elite “specialized” public schools. These schools include Stuyvesant High School, the Bronx High School of Science, Brooklyn Technical High School, the Brooklyn Latin School, Staten Island Technical High School, High School of American Studies at Lehman College, The High School for Math, Science & Engineering, and Queens High School for the Sciences at York College.
