The Hofstra University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, in conjunction with the Hofstra Department of Athletics, is proud to announce its executive board for the upcoming 2018-19 academic year.
The 2018-19 Hofstra SAAC Executive Board is as follows (one-year terms):

Vice President: Sarah Catherine Herndon, women’s tennis
Secretary: Kristin Hallam, softball
Media Coordinator: Sara Guarascio, women’s lacrosse
Pride Cup Coordinators: Dante Perez, men’s cross country and Alyssa Kohler, field hockey

In addition to their important roles within the Hofstra SAAC, Kautz and Hallam were also selected to represent Hofstra on the Colonial Athletic Association Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2018-19.
“We are very excited about our student-athletes that will assume leadership roles as members of the Hofstra Student-Athlete Advisory (SAAC) during the upcoming academic year,” commented Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway. “SAAC is a very important component of our athletic program and the governance of the NCAA. I would like to thank our 2017-18 executive board and team representatives for their outstanding leadership on behalf of their fellow student-athletes. The new Executive Board members will continue to enhance student-athlete programming and community service projects.”
“We are truly excited for the newly-selected SAAC Executive Board members that will begin in their new roles in the fall of 2018,” stated Assistant Director of Athletics / Student-Athlete Services and Life Skills Development Rachelle Fabre. “The outgoing 2017-18 Executive Board members and representatives have done an exemplary job this past year. And as a result of their hard work, I’m confident that our upcoming leaders will continue to assist in developing and enhancing the overall experience for their fellow student-athletes.”
The Hofstra SAAC is made up of two representatives from each of the Pride’s 17 NCAA Division I athletic teams. The members are selected annually by their coaches and/or peers to represent their respective team on the committee. Within SAAC, there is an executive board that is voted on by all members of the committee at the conclusion of prior academic year. The executive board is responsible for setting all meeting agendas, as well as overseeing specific operations of SAAC including the Pride Cup competition, event coordination and community outreach.
The role of SAAC on the campus of Hofstra University as well as within the CAA is to:
– Promote communication between athletic staff and student-athletes.
– Build a sense of community within the athletic program involving all athletics teams.
– Organize community service efforts.
– Create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees.
– Promote a positive student-athlete image.
– Generate a student-athlete voice within the NCAA structure by recommending NCAA legislation and provide responses to proposed legislation.
– Review, react and comment to the governance structure on NCAA activities and other subjects of interest.
– Participate in the administrative process of athletic programs and the NCAA.
