Teaching Bilingualism

Bruce Torff, a professor of teaching, learning and technology in the School of Education, co-authored an article on teaching and education for English language learners entitled, “Educators’ beliefs about appropriate pedagogical models for English language learners who differ in home-language and English-language abilities,” published in the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism

Professor Torff co-authored the piece with David Sessions, professor of information systems and business analytics in the Frank G. Zarb School of Business, and Audrey Figueroa Murphy of St. John’s University.

The article examines “educators’ beliefs about the efficacy of five pedagogical models (English as a second language (ESL) self-contained, ESL push-in, ESL pullout, bilingual, and dual language) for English language learners who differ in English literacy proficiency and home-language abilities.”
