Martine Hackett, PhD, assistant professor in the Master of Public Health Program in the School of Health Professions and Human Services, appeared on the News 12 show Diverse Long Island to discuss the factors that contribute to alarming rates of pregnancy-related deaths among black women both in Nassau County and nationwide.
Much of Dr. Hackett’s ongoing research is in the area of maternal and infant health. In 2016, she was awarded a $55,000 grant from the federal National Institutes of Health in support of a study examining racial disparities in infant mortality in New York City. She is also a former deputy director at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Bureau of Maternal, Infant and Reproductive Health.
