Hofstra University’s Cheer and Dance teams brought home the gold in several categories in the 2018 Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association College National Championship in Orlando, FL, including a sixth world victory for Cheer and third consecutive national title for Dance.
“The energy this team showed on the competition floor was full of Pride,” said Christine Farina, Cheer Head Coach. The team also placed fourth in the national competition.
Dance’s national title came in the Division 1 Pom category and was the team’s sixth overall national victory. They also placed third in Division 1 Jazz and received Gold in Performance Cheer in the World University category.
“We exceeded all of our expectations,” said Kelly Olsen-Leon, Dance Head Coach. “Winning the national title and making program history with our first three-peat proves that anything can happen with hard work, heart, and determination.”
Hofstra Cheer currently holds 10 national championship titles and six world victories. In addition to the Dance Team’s six national titles, the group was selected to be the U.S. National Team in the 2016 International World Dance Competition, where they took home the gold. Both teams also earned first place at the 2017 International Cheer Union (ICU) Pan-American Cheerleading Competition in Cali, Colombia.
