The Department of Fine Arts, Design, Art History presents What All the Greats Used by Anna O’Brien at the FORM Gallery in Calkins Hall at Hofstra University. Following an opening reception on Monday, December 11, at 8:30 p.m., the exhibition will run through Friday, December 15, 2017.
The works include nudes of various sizes. The original images were mostly taken on cell phones, which O’Brien then enlarged and painted in oils on canvas. The resulting body of work has a very individualistic approach to the body, and O’Brien hopes it conveys her passion for the feminist movement and messages about body and sex positivity.
“I wanted to do a project that I as the artist had very little control over,” said O’Brien, a junior psychology major. “The subjects were in charge of how they chose to portray themselves to me.”
