Masculinity at the End of an Era, Oct. 31

Eight years after voters elected the first black president and just days before they may send the first woman to the White House, the author of provocative book on masculinity will examine the nature, impact and implications of gender, race and entitlement during a lecture Monday, October 31, 2016, 2:55 p.m. at the Guthart Cultural Center Theater, 1st Floor Axinn Library, South Campus.

Michael Kimmel, a SUNY Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at Stony Brook University, will discuss his book, “Angry White Men: Masculinity at the End of an Era”, which chronicles how downward economic mobility, traditional ideas of masculinity, and demographic change have transformed the American social and political landscape. Dr. Kimmel is also founded the Center for the Study of Men and Masculinities at Stony Brook in 2013 with funding from the MacArthur Foundation
