Anita Feldman, associate professor of dance, has been named the recipient of the New York State Dance Education Association’s 2016 Outstanding Dance Educator Award (Post Secondary). The award will be presented during the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) Conference in Washington DC on October 8, 2016. The New York State Dance Education Association, a non-profit tax exempt organization affiliated with the NDEO, advances dance education centered in the arts throughout New York State.
Ms. Feldman is the designer and director of Hofstra’s undergraduate Dance Education Program, the only one of its kind on Long Island. Alumni of the program are dance educators in schools across the tri-state area. Professor Feldman has also instituted many programs at Hofstra that give students the opportunity to share the art of dance with the wider community. For instance, AHRC Choreography Workshops allow volunteer dance education majors to work with adults who have developmental disabilities and create informal performances. Students also travel to K-12 schools through the Dancers in Schools program and share the value of dance through lectures, performances and workshops.
