The New York Metropolitan Association of Applied Psychology (METRO) has appointed Hofstra professor Comila Shahani-Denning, PhD, its new secretary of the board.
Dr. Shahani-Denning is professor and director of Hofstra’s Industrial/Organizational Master’s Program. She has served as the director of the Master’s Program at Hofstra for more than a decade and supervises students at the masters and doctoral levels and teaches undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students. Her current research interests are the extent to which job recruitment and selection are impacted (enhanced, hindered) by social media, with a particular focus on LinkedIn. Her recent studies in this area are aimed at understanding how people choose to present themselves on LinkedIn, and this has yielded some interesting differences across industries as well as between genders. Dr. Shahani-Denning has also actively been involved in cross-cultural research, having recently completed a study where she compared selection practices in the US and India. Dr. Shahani-Denning will assume her position as METRO secretary in October 2016.
