Hofstra School of Education alumnus Dr. Bilal Polson and Dr. Mónica Byrne-Jiménez, associate professor in Educational and Policy Leadership, have co-authored a chapter in Courageous Leadership in Early Childhood Education: Taking a Stand for Social Justice.
The pair’s chapter, titled “Developing a Wealth Mindset and a Critical Stance: Collaborative Inquiry as a Path to Social Justice,” is part of an inspiring collection written by like-minded early childhood leaders who take action to challenge and change inequitable educational practices in preschools and elementary schools. The book includes insights, strategies and resources that administrators can use to build confidence, knowledge and skills, as they invest in more equitable preschools and schools.
Dr. Polson has been the assistant principal at Northern Parkway School – a K-5 school in the Uniondale school district – since 2007. Prior to that, he served as a physical education teacher at the South Country School in the Bay Shore school district. He is a 2013 graduate of the School of Education’s EdD in Educational and Policy Leadership, where he studied under Dr. Byrne-Jiménez.
