Spring Into Great Writers, Great Readings with Poet Laurie Sheck, Feb. 22

Hofstra’s annual Great Writers, Great Readings Series springs into the new semester with poet Laurie Sheck on Monday, February 22. Location is the Guthart Theater, first floor, Axinn Library, South Campus. Can’t make it to campus that evening? Watch the reading on Livestream.com.

Sheck is the author of several collections of poetry, including CaptivityBlack SeriesThe Willow Grove, which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize; Io at Night; and Amaranth. She is also the editor of the anthology Poem a Day, Volume 2 and the author of the hybrid work A Monster’s Notes , which re-examines the un-named monster in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Her poems have been included in two volumes of Best American Poetry and three volumes of The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses. Her honors include fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Ingram Merrill Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New Jersey State Council for the Arts. She teaches in the MFA program at the New School.

Great Writers, Great Readings is sponsored by the English Department and the MFA in Creative Writing Program. Events are free and open to the public.

The rest of the spring 2016 lineup for Great Writers, Great Readings includes playwright Amy Herzog (March 16) and author Dani Shapiro (April 11).
