The Hofstra community will gather on Thursday, Sept. 24 and Friday, Sept. 25 to watch Pope Francis’ speeches to Congress and the United Nations, and an interfaith service he will preside over at the National September 11 Memorial and Museum.
The viewing event, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day in the Leo A. Guthart Cultural Center Theater, South Campus, also will include an open-microphone discussion following each of Francis’ speeches. The event is sponsored by Hofstra’s Interfaith Office, the Catholic Campus Ministry, Hofstra’s Newman Club and the Department of Religion.
The pope is scheduled to address Congress about 9:20 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24. On Friday, Sept. 25, he will deliver a speech to the United Nations at 8:30 a.m., followed by an Interfaith Prayer Service at the National September 11 Museum and Memorial in Lower Manhattan at 11:30 a.m.
