Jenna Wyatt, a sophomore Labor Studies major at Hofstra, is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship for academic achievement from the Long Island chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association (LERA). Wyatt will receive the award at the LERA annual conference on May 15 in Brookville, NY.
Dr. Gregory DeFreitas, director of Hofstra’s Labor Studies program, nominated Wyatt by submitting a paper she had written about an employment discrimination class action lawsuit.
Wyatt, who is originally from Monmouth Beach, NJ, says she originally started at Hofstra as a psychology major. She was interested in industrial/organizational psychology, which focuses on workplace psychology. But after taking an introductory course on labor studies at Hofstra she redirected her studies.
Wyatt is an RA on campus and former secretary of the Student Government Association. She is also very involved with Hofstra Hillel and the campus chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, a community service fraternity.
