Everything’s Coming Up Tulips – Hofstra Family Dutch Festival, May 9

There will be more activities this year at the Festival for children, including carnival rides and games, a performance of "The Three Little Pigs," and activities planned by the coloring club - In the Lines.

In time for its 32nd year, the Hofstra Dutch Festival is getting a new name – the Hofstra Family Dutch Festivaland a makeover. This year the Festival is on a Saturday – tomorrow, May 9, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Carnival rides and games for small children are part of the fun, and the focus of the entertainment lineup is Hofstra’s amazing student talent, with a full itinerary of music, theater, dance and even comedy performances taking place on two stages.

Admission to enter the Festival and parking are free. Hofstra’s tulips are in full bloom and there will be more than 40 vendors offering Mother’s Day “shopportunities.” The East End Trio will also be back to perform music from the 1960s-2000s.

Tomorrow’s schedule of events:

11 a.m Festival Opening – featuring a special welcome by Hofstra student and WRHU-88.7 FM Assistant News Director Alyssa Duspiva

Presentation of National Colors by Hofstra ROTC Color Guard
• Hofstra Gospel Ensemble
• Hofstra Cheer Team and Pep Band

Noon-4 p.m. Hofstra Music Department Performances
The D’Addario Community Music Appreciation Initiative, now in its third year at Hofstra University,
is a multifaceted program designed to increase knowledge of and appreciation for all types of music
among a broad range of young people. The D’Addario Foundation is co-sponsoring this year’s entertainment, which includes performances by the Nassau-Suffolk High School Jazz Ensemble, Sigma’cappella, Hofstra String Quartet, Hofstra Chamber Choir, Hofstra Vocal Jazz Quartet and Hofstra Big Band.

Noon-1 p.m. Hofstra Department of Drama and Dance presents What Fools! – a one-hour version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream
1:30-2 p.m. Spectrum Theater Players performs The Three Little Pigs

2:35 p.m. Hofstra Student Clubs Open Mic
• Hear performances by Ha Ha Hofstra and Makin’ Treble

BITS ’N’ BYTES STAGE
Noon-4 p.m. East End Trio
• Performing music from the 1960s to the 2000s
