Hofstra University’s Cultural Center welcomes Kirpal Gordon and his band Speak-Spake-Spoke Septet to perform classic Walt Whitman poems set to musical compositions from the Great American Songbook. “I Hear America Singing: Walt Whitman and the Great American Songbook” be held on Tuesday March 3, at 7 p.m., at the Guthart Cultural Center Theater, Axinn Library.
Kirpal Gordon, spoken word entertainer and his band, Speak-Spake-Spoke Septet, will expand upon the meaning of the classic works of Whitman and the Great American Song Book by weaving their familiar and timeless standards together. In addition, Hofstra students and other special guests will contribute by presenting readings of Whitman’s poetry.
