Hofstra Hosts Speech & Debate Tournament, Feb. 21-22

The Department of Rhetoric in the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication is hosting its first speech and debate tournament this weekend, where its award-winning team will face off against competitors from almost a dozen other colleges and universities.

Hofstra will welcome teams from Cornell University, Seton Hall University, Brooklyn College, James Madison University, Illinois State University, West Chester University and the University of Pennsylvania, among others, for the  Long Island Forensics Extravaganza  on Saturday, Feb. 21, and the Southern & Northern Atlantic Forensics Union #9 tournament, Sunday, Feb. 22.

Students will compete in the genres of limited preparation, oral interpretation, public address, and debate during the all-day tournaments, which are free and open to the public and will be held in Breslin Hall, South Campus.

Hofstra’s Speech & Debate Team (pictured above), led by Director of Forensics Tomeka Robinson, PhD, launched last September and has since won 22 individual and team awards.
