Hofstra University, the Department of Athletics and the Pride Men’s Lacrosse program mourn the passing of student-athlete Joe Ferriso, who passed away Saturday from injuries suffered in a car accident.
Ferriso, a two-sport athlete at Kellenberg Memorial High School, was a sophomore defender on the Hofstra men’s lacrosse team. He is the son of Debbie and Al Ferriso, a supervisor in the Hofstra Physical Plant Department, and the brother of Amy, who was a member of the Pride Women’s soccer team from 2004 through 2008. Ferriso was also a member of the club lacrosse team at Hofstra prior to joining the NCAA Division I program.
“Words can not describe the feeling of sorrow and sense of loss our team and the Hofstra Lacrosse family have at this time,” commented Hofstra Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Seth Tierney. “Joe was the definition of teammate and if we can not play with him, then we will play for him.”
Flags on campus will be flown at half-staff, and there will be a moment of silence at Monday’s men’s basketball game in memory of Joe.
We ask that you keep the Ferriso family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
