Hofstra University is celebrating the season with its annual holiday drive for those in need, and a Holiday Lighting Ceremony outside Hofstra Hall on Wednesday, December 10 at 5 p.m.
Contributions of new and unwrapped items are requested for adults and children of all ages. Suggested donations include pajamas, thermals, socks, gloves, hats, coats, diapers, linens, toiletries and gift items. Holiday donation bins have been set throughout around campus, including a large collection bin in the Student Center, near the TD Bank. Donations will be accepted through December 15.
The university toy drive benefits the Mary Brennan Interfaith Nutrition Networks (INN), a non-profit agency that provides food, shelter, and social programs to disadvantaged individuals and families across Long Island. Last year, Hofstra collected more than 700 items thanks to a collaborative effort of our academic departments, administrative areas and student groups.
On December 10, the University’s traditional lighting ceremony will feature songs of the season by Sigma’capella, Hofstra’s coed a ‘Capella group, followed by a reception in the Student Center’s main dining room. Hofstra’s holiday preparations include festive cafeteria decorations and window paintings crafted by students, as well as a wide variety of cultural celebrations.
