Friendship Symposium: December 3rd

Hofstra will host the “Friendship Symposium: A Day of Lively Discussion and Debate” this Wednesday, December 3, addressing  topics such as friendship in the age of social media, friendship through creative collaboration, and the history and future of these unique relationships.

Three panels featuring students and invited speakers will be held from 11:15 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the various theaters on Hofstra’s campus (see event listing below for locations.)

Donna Freitas, author of Sex and the Soul, from the Center for the Study of Religion and Society at the University of Notre Dame will discuss how social media has impacted relationships. The second panel features accomplished clarinetist Kinan Azmeh and visual artist Kevork Mourad, addressing relationship issues when artists collaborate.  The final panel welcomes Amanda Herbert from Christopher Newport University, professor of History and author of Female Alliances, along with Rutgers University’s Seth Koven, professor of History and author of The Match Girl and the Heiress.

The event is sponsored the Office of the Provost, the Office of the Dean, Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office, Hofstra Cultural Center, and Hofstra University Honors College, as well as the National Endowment for the Humanities Enduring Questions Grant and the Peter Allan Teleha Endowed Memorial Fund.
