The Hofstra Chorale and Chamber Singers return to the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City on Friday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of “Songs of Resilience.” The program includes a vibrantly eclectic array of music on the theme of the triumph of hope in times of trial, from the resistance songs of South Africa to the folk traditions of South America; from African American spirituals and work songs to colonial era shaker hymns, and much more in between.
The centerpiece of the evening is the Organ/Harp/Percussion version of Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms (featuring Matthew Koraus on organ, Margery Fitts on harp, and the very talented boy soprano Rainer DeLalio). This is perhaps Bernstein’s most energetic and dramatic work for choir, both celebrating and lamenting the human condition with outbursts of pure joy and deep fear that wrestle with quiet meditations on humility and peace.
The Cathedral of the Incarnation is located at 50 Cathedral Ave in Garden City, NY. Members of the Hofstra community (current faculty, staff and students) receive two free tickets upon presentation of a current HofstraCard.
Tickets are $10 general admission; $8 senior citizen (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra student with ID. For tickets and information, please call 516-463-5497. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
