A group of first year students and faculty members from the Music Department spent Saturday, October 25, in Manhattan to Lincoln Center to see a matinee of the Metropolitan Opera’s production of The Magic Flute. Accompanying the students were Adjunct Assistant Professors Chris Morrongiello and Rory McDonough and Adjunct Instructor Sarah Louden.
There are 32 students in the cluster, Elements of Music and Music Theory. Hofstra’s first-year clusters are typically three courses grouped around a common theme – in this case, music. Courses introduce students to the intellectual and social life of the University, and nearly all of them will also help satisfy general education requirements necessary for all majors. Many of the clusters involve activities in New York City, to help students become comfortable and familiar with all the opportunities available to them by virtue of the University’s proximity to the city.
