Hofstra Celebrates LGBTQIA Month

Hofstra celebrates LGBTQIA Heritage Month, with a reception on Wednesday, October 15, at 11:15 a.m, during common hour. The reception features keynote speaker Micah Jesse ’09, a noted entertainment and pop culture expert. Micah also runs MicahJesse.com, an entertainment and lifestyle blog he founded as an undergraduate. The event, which takes place in the Multipurpose Room West, Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, also includes Hofstra faculty speakers, activities, educational displays, food, and giveaways.

You can be part of the conversation with Hofstra’s LGBTQIA event throughout the month by using #HULGBT14.  Other events featured this month are:

Shoot for Pride!

  • Monday, October 7 – 9 p.m.
    145 Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus
    H*INT members will take photographs with an instant camera of students holding up signs that display support for LGBTQ communities around the world.

National Coming Out/Jeans Day

  • Wednesday, October 8 – 11:15 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
    Atrium, Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus
    Please join the Office of Student Leadership and Activities in celebrating National Coming Out Day by wearing jeans to collectively show our support for the LGBTQIA community. Jeans Day began at Rutgers University in 1974 as a way to promote equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning individuals. Members of the Hofstra community dressed in professional attire may pick up a jean patch that can be worn to show your support.

Pride Network Drag Show

    Student Center Theater, Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center, North Campus
    Join The Pride Network for its annual drag show featuring professional and student performers who dress as members of the opposite sex and put on a show for the Hofstra community.
