Hofstra University Head Men’s Basketball Coach Joe Mihalich announced today his squad’s 13-game non-conference slate for the upcoming 2014-15 campaign.
The very challenging slate, who includes five games at the Mack Sports Complex, will include games against schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference and from the American Athletic Conference.
The schedule opens on Friday, November 14 when Hofstra hosts Jacksonville in the Pride’s home and season opener. The game against the Dolphins is part of the Global Sports Invitational, which will see Hofstra play a total of four games in that invitational.
Next up for the Pride will be the team’s first road test, a challenging trip to North Carolina State on Monday, November 17. The Wolfpack won 22 games a season ago and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Hofstra’s next contest will be a highly-anticipated encounter with Long Island rival Stony Brook on Friday, November 21. It will be the first meeting between the teams since the 2008-09 season when Hofstra captured a 61-56 victory over Seawolves. The Pride leads the all-time series with their local rivals, 18-4.
That weekend will see Hofstra play a pair of home games as another local rival visits Hempstead with Wagner coming to the Mack Sports Complex on Sunday. November 23. The Pride and the Seahawks have met 52 times in their history with Hofstra leading the way with a 34-18 series advantage.
Following those home games, Hofstra will head on the road for a pair of games and will conclude play in the Global Sports Invitational as they visit South Florida on Tuesday, November 25 and then head to Jackson State on Friday, November 28.
The month of December opens with a home tilt against Norfolk State on Tuesday, December 2 following by a quick trip to Appalachian State on Sunday, December 7.
Before the break for exams, Hofstra will take on Coppin State on December 10 down in Maryland.
Following a break for final exams, the Pride will travel to another local rival in Columbia on Saturday, December 20.
The Pride’s final home game of the non-conference schedule will be an exciting one as La Salle visits Hempstead on Tuesday, December 23. The alma mater of Coach Mihalich, the Explorers advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament as recently as 2013.
A return to Barclays Center in next on the docket for Hofstra as the Pride will take on LIU Brooklyn at the home of the Brooklyn Nets (NBA) on Sunday, December 28. Hofstra had its first-ever appearance at the Barclays Center in 2012 when they took on Tulane.
The final game of the 2014 non-conference schedule will occur on literally the final day of 2014 as Hofstra will head north to face Central Connecticut State on December 31.
