Italian Experience Festival on September 14, Featuring Italian Food, Live Entertainment, Children’s Activities
Outdoors, Rain or Shine, South Campus; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Celebrate Italy’s cultural and culinary influence on America at one of the largest and most beautiful outdoor festivals on Long Island when Hofstra University hosts the 22nd Annual Italian Experience on Sunday, September 14, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival will take place outdoors, rain or shine, on the South Campus.
The Italian Experience Festival has grown to be a popular Long Island tradition. As in the past, the Italian Experience features a full itinerary of crafts, live entertainment, children’s activities and food.
New to the festival this year is Simona De Rosa. Born in Naples, Italy, De Rosa discovered the world of jazz at an early age. She received formal voice training under the guide of Cristina Florio’s Voice Academy, which she attended until age 22. De Rosa has built her career by embracing not only the jazz of the American songbook but also the traditional music of her own Mediterranean roots. Over the last five years, she has recorded two albums and collaborated with many awarded musicians in Italy and the US.
Returning entertainment to the Festival includes Angelo Giudici and The San Remo Duo; AIAE Poets and Writers Piazza; “Pop-era,” featuring soloists from The Bronx Opera Company; the Long Island Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra; and CIAO, WHRU’s Italian Radio Program. Children’s entertainment features juggling Jester Jim and magician Gary the Great
Admission is $6; $5 for senior citizens; children under 12 are admitted free. Hofstra students, faculty, and staff are admitted free upon presentation of a current Hofstra Card.
