Grad Students Get Fit in County Expo

Hofstra’s Society of Public Health Advocates (SOPHA) is helping to bring healthful habits to local residents with its participation in the upcoming Nassau County Health, Fitness, & Sports Expo on Sat., August 9, 2014. 

Health, Fitness and Sports Expo v2 8.5 x 11 R The expo, which is hosted by County Executive Edward Mangano and the North Shore-LIJ Health System, is an annual event that helps raise awareness of health issues and encourages the public to adopt more active lifestyles.

SOPHA’s public health graduate students will hold interactive workout demonstrations and share their recommendations on effective fitness apps.  The School of Health Sciences and Human Services will also host a table with information on its academic programs.

This year’s expo will also feature a soccer clinic hosted by the NY Cosmos, a martial arts demonstration, golf and double-dutch clinics, and appearances by sports personalities including former Met Dwight “Doc” Gooden.     It will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mitchel Field Athletic Complex in Uniondale.
