WRHU-88.7 FM Radio Hofstra University is a finalist for a National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Marconi Radio Award as the top non-commercial radio station in the country.
WRHU is one of five finalists in the category – Non-Commercial Station of the Year. WRHU is Hofstra’s award-winning student-run radio station, with studios at the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication. Ranked as one of the top 5 college radio stations in the nation by Princeton Review, WRHU and its student reporters have won top honors from the New York State Associated Press Association, the Press Club of Long Island, the Society of Professional Journalists and New York Women in Communications.
WRHU has also been the flagship station of the New York Islanders since 2010, and is the first and only college radio station to have an exclusive broadcasting agreement with a professional sports team.
The Marconi Awards, named after inventor and Nobel Prize winner Guglielmo Marconi, recognize stations and individuals for performance and excellence in 22 categories. This is the first year that the NAB is recognizing non-commercial stations. Winners will be announced on Sept. 11 at an awards ceremony in Indianapolis.
