Edwin Simpser, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine has been named president and CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside, New York. Established in 1872, St. Mary’s is a non-profit, pediatric post-acute hospital in New York City.
A specialist in pediatric gastroenterology, Dr. Simpser is an attending physician at North Shore University Hospital, New York Hospital Queens and the Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park. Prior to joining the faculty at the School of Medicine, he instructed students, residents, and fellows throughout many medical schools and teaching hospitals in the metropolitan area.
Dr. Simpser is a strong advocate for children with complex medical conditions among national, state, and local government agencies as well as professional healthcare organizations. He is co-founder and president of the Pediatric Complex Care Association, a national organization of children’s healthcare facilities dedicated to serving children with medically complex conditions.
Dr. Simpser joined St. Mary’s in 1999 as chief medical officer. He is credited with helping to spearhead the construction of a new Children’s Pavilion and campus transformation, including the creation of many innovative programs for children with special needs.
