The city of Çatalhöyük dates back 9,000 years.

European Odyssey students and faculty had the opportunity to visit Çatalhöyük in Turkey, believed to be the world’s oldest city. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that, although open to the public, has not yet been fully excavated. Incredibly, information that is known about this ancient multiracial community indicates it was a society where men and women had equal rights. Also in Turkey, the group visited the “fairy rock” formations of Goreme in the town of Cappadocia. Tomorrow, our travelers return to Istanbul before spending five days in Greece.

Goreme rock formations
The unique chimney rock formations are the result of volcanic eruptions millions of years ago.

Keep up with the European Odyssey and see more pictures on their blog.
