Dr. Genevieve Weber and Grad Student Lindsay Jacobson Win Diversity Research Grant

Genevieve Weber, PhD, associate professor  of counseling and mental health professions, and graduate student Lindsay Jacobson have been awarded a 2013-14 Faculty Diversity Research and Curriculum Development Grant from Hofstra University.

Their project will investigate how family acceptance influences the mental health, academic performance, and personal pride of LGBT college students.   The researchers note that this is an understudied area of research, and hope that their findings will help educate counseling and development professionals who work with LGBT college students, as well as parents of LGBT children, adolescents, and adults.

The grant of $2,500 will be used as a stipend for Jacobson, who is a full-time graduate student in mental health counseling.
