Mario Gonzalez, assistant professor of journalism, media studies, and public relations in the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, has been recognized for his work as a videographer, photographer, and editor on a story that was named among the best multimedia sports presentations of 2013 by the Associated Press Sports Editors, a national organization of professional sports journalists.
The piece, on Newsday.com, chronicled fighter Chris Weidman’s journey to become the UFC middleweight champion. Weidman is also a Hofstra University alumnus. Prof. Gonzalez was a staff member at Newsday before joining Hofstra last year.
