As Valentine’s Day approaches, let Hofstra’s Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) match you up with the perfect internship.
The CCE is hosting a speed-dating event with community partners tomorrow, Feb. 11, 6-8 pm in the Student Center Multipurpose Room West, where students can come and learn about internship and volunteer opportunities with local organizations that are working on promoting democracy, social justice, and sustainability. Dinner is included.
The internships allow you to do good while also earning academic credit towards a general liberal arts elective or a civic engagement minor. Representatives from the following non-profit organizations are expected to be on hand to discuss the ways students can make a difference in their community: the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives, Advocates for Community Health in partnership with Health Leads, National Day Laborer Organizing Network, Hempstead High School Initiative, Long Island Civic Engagement Table, Greater Uniondale Area Action Coalition, Long Island Immigrant Alliance, and the City of Long Beach Department of Economic Development.
The CCE was formed in 2007 with the goal of engaging students as active and knowledgeable citizens on campus as well as in their local, national, and global communities. The group hosts dozens of events throughout the academic year that help inform and mobilize students and community members about the pressing issues of the day.
