Hofstra University will welcome more than 100 of Nassau and Suffolk counties’ best spellers to campus for the Long Island Regional Spelling Bee on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse.
The winner of the Bee will go on to represent the region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., later this spring.
Hofstra Assistant Professor of Writing Studies and Composition Lisa Dresner will serve as head judge. Reading the words, their definitions and languages of origin to the students will be Jeffrey Morosoff, Assistant Professor of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations.
The event is open to the media, but not the general public.
This is the third year that Hofstra has hosted the regional bee, which is part of the university’s Regional Scholars initiative, which brings talented middle- and high-school students to campus for a variety of academic programs and competitions.
