The New York Islanders announced today that WCBS NEWSRADIO 880AM, as well as the Islanders official radio station, WRHU 88.7 FM–Radio Hofstra University and WRCN 103.9 FM, will broadcast the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™ game live on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. Chris King, the Islanders play-by-play announcer and Hofstra University senior Rob Joyce, the color analyst, will call the action.
WRHU, Hofstra University’s student-run radio station, has been the flagship station for the Islanders since 2010. It is the only college radio station in the country to have such an agreement with a professional sports franchise. More than 20 students work on each live broadcast, in the booth and behind the scenes in production and engineering. During the Islanders’ playoff run last year, WCBS simulcast WRHU’s broadcast of Game 6 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
“We are proud of the exceptional work that WRHU’s management and students produce as the flagship station for the New York Islanders,” said Evan Cornog, dean of Hofstra’s Lawrence Herbert School of Communication. “This unique partnership with a great major league sports franchise continues to provide our students with extraordinary opportunities to work directly with leading news organizations like WCBS Newsradio.”
With one of the largest, most veteran local news staffs in the country, WCBS 880 is among America’s most listened to radio stations providing breaking news, local headlines, business, sports and entertainment updates for more than 45 years. The match-up between the area’s local teams will be available on-air at 880M, WCBS-FM 101.1 HD2.
“We’re thrilled to partner with WCBS NEWSRADIO 880 to carry 2014 Coors Light Stadium Series™ game on their various platforms,” Islanders Sr. VP Michael Picker said. “Our fans that are unable to attend this once in a lifetime event will have the ability to turn their radio dial to WCBS 880AM, as well as WRHU and WRCN to listen to the next big chapter in the historic Islanders/Rangers rivalry at Yankee Stadium.”
“This highly anticipated contest between the Islanders and Rangers has wide appeal to listeners across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut,” said Don Bouloukos, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, CBS RADIO New York. “We look forward to showcasing the great hockey talent and pageantry of this classic match-up.”
