The Hofstra University Department of Athletics is excited to announce that it has been chosen to host the 2013 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Summit.

The annual summit will be on the Hempstead campus for the first time in 2013 and will take place November 3 and 4. The last two CAA SAAC Leadership Summits were held at The College of William & Mary.

“I am delighted that Hofstra University has been chosen to host this wonderful event,” commented Hofstra President Stuart Rabinowitz.  “The CAA Leadership Summit will bring together a talented group of University administrators and student-athletes from the various schools in the conference to focus on finding ways to enhance the academic, athletic and community experience of all involved.”

“We are very excited to host the upcoming CAA SAAC Leadership Summit here at Hofstra University,” stated Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Jeffrey A. Hathaway.  “It is our goal, and the goal of the CAA and its membership, to give our student-athletes the best possible academic, athletic and personal development experience during their time as undergraduates as they prepare for life after graduation.  The CAA Leadership Summit will be a wonderful exploration into different avenues to assisting in those endeavors.  We look forward to bringing this group together in November and our entire University community is thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as host for the Summit’s first ever trip to Hofstra.”

“We are in the business of creating opportunities for the 4,000 student-athletes who compete in the CAA,” commented CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager.  “The SAAC Leadership Summit,  bringing together the ‘best and brightest’ of our student-athletes, is an energizing and creative gathering which enhances the student-athlete experience on each individual campus and is a valuable conference resource.  We appreciate Hofstra’s leadership in hosting this year’s Summit.”

A male and female student-athlete from each member school are chosen to represent their respective institutions at the summit. The two-day event will allow the group of conference administrators and student-athletes to discuss current issues in college athletics as well as ways to enhance the CAA student-athlete experience.

Focal points of the conference include leadership development and community service involvement for student-athletes among other topics. In years past, Hofstra attendees have come back to campus with ideas to more thoroughly engage fellow SAAC members during meetings, as well as bring all student-athletes together through campus and community wide initiatives. The group also offers input on the rules, regulations and policies that affect student-athletes’ lives.

An agenda for the two-day conference will be announced in the upcoming months.
