We continue to support the ACBM Alumni Scholarship and look forward to our goal of endowing this scholarship, which will remain at Hofstra in perpetuity to benefit Hofstra student musicians.

Our first newsletter was published and we encourage all alumni to contact Herbert Deutsch ’56 or Amy Buhler ’99 in the Alumni Relations Office at (516) 463-6636 for more information or with any questions.

Alpha Phi Alumnae
President – Stephany Samuels ’02

On March 12 we attended the Alpha Phi Annual at Hofstra USA to support our collegiate chapter and raise money for Cardiac Care. The theme was “Eat Your Heart Out” and baked goods were sold.

Our alumnae executive board has been working hard to plan social events and raise money for the Laurie Barry Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The first event was held in NYC on April 9. A portion of the money from the event went toward the scholarship. The next event will be at Eisenhower Park in June. It will be an outdoor barbecue and sports will be played. Alpha Phi alumnae should check the Web site and their e-mail for further information.

Dues are now past due. If you haven’t already done so please send your check for $25 made out to Hofstra University and send to Tara Vassallo, Director of Alumni Relations, Alumni House, 150 Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY 11549. Please help us support our alumnae chapter. In addition, please donate to the Laurie Barry Memorial Endowed Scholarship.

The Hofstra CAN! program features alumni mentors who assist in the career development of students. Through this connection, CAN! volunteers have the opportunity to share career expertise and advice, mentor students via e-mail, phone or in person, invite students to spend a day at their place of business, represent their profession at campus career nights and offer guidance on early career planning.

Reflecting on his experience with the program, Andres Nieman ’05 said: “As an international student from Argentina, the CAN! program gave me the opportunity to meet and work with Ed Watson ’89, an incredibly successful man and an executive at Citigroup. I am really grateful, considering that I will start working in the finance and banking industry after graduation. Sitting down and talking about my future career, with the most successful man I have met so far, was a fulfilling experience. Now I look forward to continuing to be involved at Hofstra as an alumni mentor myself.”
